The Wanderer Program will provide support and the necessary resources to those who otherwise would be unable to complete 50 hours of supervised driving.
The program will ensure trained Driver mentors work from ‘start to finish’ with participants to establish the strong relationships necessary to;
- Access safe, roadworthy vehicles.
- Help with identification documents.
- Set up payment plans for infringement fines.
- Help pay off court fines through Work Permit Development Scheme.
- Obtain a Learner’s Permit.
- Convert Keys for Life certificate to Learners Permit
- Learn basic vehicle maintenance and safety.
- Complete 50 supervised hours with driver mentor.
- Complete the practical driving assessment

Mentors
Our Driver Mentors are employed based on their experience in Youth Work, Community Service or Mentoring. Sitting side by side with the same mentor for 50 hours of one-on-one mentoring to work through any challenges they are facing in all facets of their life whilst learning to drive has been critical to the success of the Wanderer Program.
Meaningful relationship between mentor and participant will provide the grounds to;
- Create a safe and engaging learning environment for participants.
- Share 50 hours on the road and assist participants to get their provisional licence.
- Further our understanding of any other barriers to employment, or a safe and stable home life that may exist.
- This relationship is central to our program; two people in a safe environment, sharing stories, issues, culture, life goals and 50 hours on the road.

I came away from this event with absolutely no doubt in my mind, that the McGovern Foundation is changing lives, and I will contribute in any way I can to the success of the Foundation.

Once again thank you McGovern Foundation, Andrew, Rhys, Kyle, Lucinda and everyone. You invested so much time and energy into this both my sons. It's so appreciated. You're way more than driving instructors and for that my family is very grateful.

Thanks to the McGovern Foundation and especially Andrew McGovern for his patience with my Son Wayne. This is an amazing program that you are helping the indigenous community of WA to achieve, when in some circumstances would be out of reach. Just to get the supervised hours up, and to teach them all the little things that make all the difference. Personally, I cannot thank you enough.
